Cedar Rapids Sizzlers Win 10th Annual Granny Basketball Championship

The Cedar Rapids Sizzlers beat the Hot Pink Grannies of Des Moines by a score of 58-52  on the afternoon of June 15 to win the 10th annual Granny Basketball Tournament, held at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa.

This is the second consecutive state championship for the Sizzlers. Last year, the team beat the Hot Pink Grannies by a score of 62-39.

The rules and uniforms of Granny Basketball characterize the game. Teams are comprised of five or six women over the age of fifty—two guards, two forwards and one or two centers. Running, jumping and physical contact are not allowed. Players wear 1920s style uniforms—bloomers, middy blouses and knee-high stockings.
