Are Banks Open on Presidents’ Day 2013? What’s Open, What’s Closed in West Des Moines

Don't count on being able to do personal banking Monday.

Do you have banking business – as in banking business that requires a personal banker – that you need to take care of before by Tuesday, Feb. 19?

You’d better call ahead or take care of it today or Friday. Most banks will be closed Monday for Presidents' Day, a federal holiday. Presidents' Day is always observed on the third Monday in February, which falls on the 18th this year.

A few banks will remain open, according to an Iowa Bankers Association survey.

What other holiday schedules do you need to plan your day around?

Federal government offices are closed, but state of Iowa, Polk County and city of West Des Moines offices are open.

There will be no mail delivery.

West Des Moines Community Schools will be in session.

The West Des Moines Public Library will be closed all day for in-service training.

Most businesses will be open and many will offer special Presidents’ Day sales and promotions.
