Get Rid of More Scrap Metal, Old Appliances Saturday

West Des Moines residents have another chance to recycle unwanted items without putting them in the landfill.

The West Des Moines Public Works Department and Midwest Recovery are partnering in another scrap appliance and metal event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at 560 16th St.

The following items will be accepted free of charge: Water heaters, washers and dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, furnaces, game systems, air conditioners, microwave ovens, back-yard grills, lawnmowers (including riding mowers), VCRs and DVRs, computer CPUs, batteries, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, printers and copiers, exercise equipment, cell phones, and general scrap metal.

The following items will not be accepted: appliances with food, tires, plastic, garbage propane tanks, chemicals or paint, water softeners, wood furniture, and light bulbs.

Monitors and televisions will be accepted for a fee under the following schedule:

  • 18 inches and smaller – $7
  • 19- to 25-inches: $12
  • 26- to 32-inches: $17
  • 33- to 40-inches: $22
  • 41 inches and larger: $27
  • Console televisions: $27
Midwest Recovery will assist in unloading. Questions should be directed to the Public Works Department at (515) 222-3480.
