Hot, Dry Conditions Continue to Bake West Des Moines

Central Iowa is in severe drought after record-breaking triple digit temperatures, which may return in the coming days.

The mercury will creep close to 100 degrees Monday as temperatures reach near record highs for the date, Accuweather.com said.

Temperatures will remain in the 90s through Tuesday, but it will be Friday before central Iowans daytime highs in the upper 70s.

There’s a 50 percent chance of rain Tuesday night. Rain chances diminish to 20 percent on Wednesday.

U.S. Drought Monitor lists central Iowa in “severe drought.” Record-breaking triple digit temperatures in the past two weeks worsened drought conditions, the Associated Press reported,

Iowa suffered through its hottest week since July 2012. Statewide, it was the seventh driest August in 141 years of record. July was the ninth driest in as many years.
