Illumifest Will Light Up West Des Moines Again this Year

New this year to the community celebration is a car show.

A news release:

The West Des Moines City/School Campus will once again glow with excitement at the 6th Annual Illumifest event.  The festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, starting at 2 p.m., with events wrapping up at 9 p.m. 

New this year is the inaugural edition of the Illumifest Car Show. The event is free for car enthusiasts to enter and free for car lovers who just want to look.  For entry information, please contact Kevin Trevillyan at (515) 273-0638.

Here's a rundown of the schedule:                                                                          

  • Carnival Rides & Games/Food Vendors: 2-9 p.m.
  • Illumifest Car Show: 2-4 p.m.
  • Free paddle boat rides on the campus pond: 3-8 p.m.
  • Free displays and exhibits by the Chinese Association of Iowa: 4-9 p.m.
  • Free lantern making (limited to 1,000): 5 p.m.
  • Free face painting at the West Des Moines Library Cafe: 5 p.m.
  • Free hot-air balloon rides (limited): 5:30 p.m. (weather permitting)
  • Free strolling entertainment: throughout the evening
  • Free outdoor movie (Disney's "Brave"): 7:30 p.m.
  • Fireworks extravaganza: 9 p.m.

People attending the festival are encouraged to park in lots located throughout the City/School Campus area, which include: City Hall, WDM Public Library, Learning Resource Center, Southwoods School, Jordan Creek Elementary and Valley Stadium.  For more information please check out the official website: www.illumifest.com.
