Stephen Colbert: Prove You're Gay to Iowa's Steve King

On "The Colbert Report," the satirist asks gay Americans to send photos and videos to the firebrand Iowa congressman to prove they're gay.

Iowa 4th District Congressman Steve King might not want to check his mail in the next few days.

On his Comedy Central program Tuesday, Stephen Colbert asked gay Americans to ““send photos and/or videos to Steve King, proving that you are gay.”

Colbert, host of “The Colbert Report,” was offering satiric commentary on the recent dust-up in Arizona over proposed legislation that would have allowed businesses to refuse service to homosexuals on the basis of religious freedom.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer declined to sign it, but King said on WHO-TV’s “The Insiders” program that people should be able to make their own decisions about their businesses and government should not be able to tell business owners what should happen in their businesses.

Colbert said King’s biggest problem with protecting the rights of homoxexuals is that their “self-professed behavior” cannot be “independently verified.”

So who better to verify it than King, Colbert asked.

“As Steve King knows, even if gays do exist, it’s nearly impossible to prove it,” Colbert said, asking gay Americans to “send photos and/or videos to Steve King, proving that you are gay.”

And then he provided the Iowa Republican’s address at the Rayburn Office Building in Washington, DC.
