'Dancing With the Stars' Results: Any Missteps for Shawn Johnson on Salute to Veterans Night?

Who will be left Tuesday night among celebs Johnson, Emmit Smith, Gilles Marini, Kelly Monaco, Kirstie Alley, Melissa Rycroft, and Apolo Anton Ohno?

The country has picked a president.

Now the serious choice of who to keep and who to kick off "Dancing With the Stars: All Stars" can take center stage again.

With only two weeks of competition left to go, West Des Moines native and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and professional partner Derek Hough were first on the dance floor Monday night. They danced the Viennese waltz to the mournful tune "Arms of an Angel."

Johnson's gymnastic skills were only moderately on display during a few turns -- no tumbling runs like in faster dances, no gimmicks like a dive off the stairs into a padded pit a few weeks ago.

Head judge Len Goodman said, "This was quiet, it was gentle. It was poignant ... it was fabulous." He gave the duo a 9.5 out of 10.

Judge Bruno Tonioli raved: "My darling, that was heavenly perfection. It was emotive, it was harmonious. It just was fantastic."

The effusive Italian gave the pair a perfect 10.

And judge Carrie Ann Inaba followed Tonioli's lead, also giving Johnson a 10. She said Johnson has transformed during the competition from a ball of energy into a magical performer who gave her chills as she watched.

Host Brooke Burke-Charvet said last week's scores -- Johnson earned a perfect 30 -- will be combined with tonight's tally and audience votes to determine the two celebrities sent home on Tuesday.

The host asked Johnson if she feels comfortable with the changes that have taken place in her dances during the competition.

"I feel like I'm growing as a dancer," said Johnson, clad in a white gown slit down to her navel.

In honor of Veterans Day, the couples paid homage to the military. Johnson told Burke-Charvet during her interview segment that "none of us would be here without" the service members.

Trio Dance Scores

Also on Monday, the stars performed in a dance trio with a pro already eliminated. Mark Ballas -- who helped Johnson win the glitter ball trophy in Season 8 -- joined Johnson and Hough.

Their samba, with elements of tribal dance, featured a pelvis-rocking Johnson in a faux tribal sequined bikini, while both male partners were shirtless, to screams from the crowd.

Goodman said if he was an audience member he would have cheered, but he was judging the samba and the choreography was self-indulgent. "There was very little samba content. If you go home tomorrow, don't blame me."

Tonioli said as art the dance was fantastic. "Creatively, it was outstanding, but even I have to admit there was very little samba."

"I disagree with both of you," Anaba told the other judges. "What they did was executed with perfection.

"What?" cried Goodman, rising to his feet. "You naughty girl," purred Antonioli.

Host Tom Bergeron predicted interesting scores.

And they were a mix: From Inaba a 10; from Goodman a 7 to boos from the crowd; and a 9 from Tonioli. As Burke-Charvet read the phone number to vote for Johnson the crowd continued to loudly boo.

The 20-year-old gymnast claimed the title in 2009. She joined the All Stars version of DWTS after having to retire from gymnastics because of a knee injury.

Two celebrities will exit the show on Tuesday night. You can watch DWTS on WOI-TV channel 5 locally.
