5 Things: Say 'Aah,' Walk, Smile, Dance, Break a Leg

Friday: Santa arrives at Jordan Creek Town Center, 101 Jordan Creek Pkwy., at 6 p.m. for the annual tree lighting ceremony and fireworks in the amphitheater. Veridian Credit Union is the sponsor.

Saturday: The St. Jude  Children’s Research Hospital in 80 communities across the country, including West Des Moines, will walk together Saturday as teams or individuals in “Give Thanks Walk, a family-friendly 5k walk raising money to support the hospital. The West Des Moines event is at Valley West Mall, 1551 Valley West Drive.

All Fido wants for Christmas is a photo with his human. Animal Rescue League West, 5500 Mils Civic Pkwy., offers professional photos of pets and their humans with Santa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Call (515) 473-9102 to schedule an appointment.

Bridges of Iowa is the featured charity receiving proceeds from the Van Wijk Winery Charity Masquerade Ball from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel, 1800 50th St. The event features a silent auction to benefit the charity, appetizers, samplings of 18 wines, and dance performances by the Des Moines Ballroom and Salsa of Des Moines.

Sunday and Monday: Tallgrass Theatre is holding auditions for “Dancing with the Moon” by Tom Deiker beginning at 7 p.m. both Sunday and Monday at Rex Mathes Auditorium, 1401 Vine St. “Dancing with the Moon” is the story of an earthy, middle-aged divorcee, Kate, who has a history of looking for love in all the wrong places. She tutors a virginal graduate student, Francis, on ways to woo women. In the process, they get more than they expected.

Cast requirements are one male, age 20-30; two men age 30 or older; and three females between the ages of  20-40.
