A Dash of Snow Adds to Valley Junction Holiday Cheer

Horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa draw visitors to West Des Moines' Valley Junction.

Historic Valley Junction Foundation Executive Director Jim Miller joked that he ordered up a spot of snow Thursday just for the first installment of Jingle in the Junction, the merchants' annual holiday open house.

Shopkeepers observed extended hours and many had "living" window displays. Horse-drawn carriages rolled up and down Fifth Street, the main thoroughfare in the destination shopping district, and Santa's workshop was the busiest spot in the Junction.

Valley Junction merchants will also observe Jingle in the Junction Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. Next week, the theme is "Reindeer Games."
