City Sets Off Independence Day Fun with Parade, Street Dance, Fireworks and More

There's a new route for the parade this year; regional favorite The Blue Band will play at street dance in Valley Junction after the parade.

If you’re planning for the Fourth of July holiday, set two days aside for festivities in West Des Moines.

Independence Days activities will be held July 3-4. Here’s the schedule:

July 3:

Independence Days Parade starts at 6:30pm from Valley West Drive and Ashworth Road  Due to construction on Vine Street, the parade is being rerouted from its’ traditional route.  From Valley West Drive the parade will proceed east to Vine, then south on Vine to Sixth Street, and then south on Sixth Street ending at Elm.  The parade is sponsored by West Bank.

Post Parade Street Dance follows the parade in Valley Junction.  The street dance is sponsored by the Historic Valley Junction Foundation.  This year's band is the Blue Band.

July 4:

Holiday Classic Horseshoe Tourney will be held at Holiday Park starting at 9 a.m. For more information call 681-1937.  The event is sponsored by the WDM Horseshoe Pitchers Association.

July 4th Aquatic Center Special offers $3 admission per person at both West Des Moines aquatic centers.  The aquatic centers are open from Noon until 6 p.m.

29th Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament will take place in Raccoon River Park starting at 8 a.m. and is sponsored by the West Des Moines  Fire Department.  For more information please call 222-3420.

West Des Moines Community Band Concert will be held by the Coneflower Shelters in Raccoon River Park starting at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of patriotic favorites!

Fireworks Display: Starts at dusk over Blue Heron Lake at Raccoon River Park, 2500 Grand Ave.
