Confections by the Thousands Go Quickly at Great Cookie Walk of West Des Moines

Some of West Des Moines' best bakers contributed to the annual event, which raises money for the Youth Justice Initiative of West Des Moines.

By the hundreds, area residents filed through the West Des Moines Christian Church and bought cookies by the pounds during the ninth annual Great Cookie Walk of West Des Moines Saturday.

The doors opened at 9 and by noon, the nearly 2,000 dozen cookies were all gone.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Youth Justice Initiative of West Des Moines, a restorative justice program heralded for its success rate and a low incidence of recidivism.
