Food, Personal Products Needed for Valley Junction Holiday Drive

The Historic Valley Junction Foundation will collect the items to help those in need served by West Des Moines Human Services.

The Historic Valley Junction Foundation will hold its first “Miracle on 5th Street” food and personal products drive Nov. 29 through Dec. 13 to benefit West Des Moines Human Services, according to a news release.  

The food and personal products drive is being held in conjunction with Historic Valley Junction’s annual Jingle in the Junction holiday open house activities. All items will be donated to the West Des Moines Personal Pantry and Emergency Food Pantry, which helps residents in need.

Donation boxes will be placed throughout stores in the district.

Jingle in the Junction will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on three Thursdays -- Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and Dec. 13.

The businesses in Historic Valley Junction and the streets will be lined with over 150,000 twinkling lights, the release said. Along with favorites, such as free horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa, and caroling, many new activities will be offered this year. Admission is free.

Personal Care Items (regular and trial sizes):

-Shampoo and conditioner

-Toothpaste and toothbrushes

-Soap

-Deodorant

-Laundry detergent

-Toilet paper

Historic Valley Junction is six blocks of specialty shops that include art galleries, antique shops, fashion boutiques, salons, service businesses and restaurants. Most of the shops will be open until 9 the evenings of the Holiday Open House.
