Full-Out Curb Alert: It’s Spring Clean-Up Week in West Des Moines

Get ready. It's the week you've been waiting for.

Urban legend is that West Des Moines throws away the best stuff and the annual spring clean-up is freecycling at its best.

The city-sponsored pick-up is on regular garbage pick-up day all this week. So if your trash is picked up on Monday, make sure you have your cleanup items on the curb by 6 a.m. On it goes through Friday.

Small items should be bagged or boxed. Keep it neat.

Hazardous waste is a no-no. For that, the city and Metro Waste Authority are partnering in a hazardous waste drop-off at Valley Stadium on June 29.

Also, don’t put refrigerators, washers and dryers, dehumidifiers, freezers, furnaces, air conditioners, stoves, microwaves, water heaters or dishwashers out during Spring Cleanup Days. You can work with Waste Connections – call (515) 265-7374 –  to dispose of those items.

Here’s a full list of what’s OK and what’s not.
