Girls Self-Defense Class

This one-time 3 hr. class has a presentation, role play, and
discussion of different situations, followed by practicing self-defense and
safety techniques. Girls ages 10 and up will leave class remembering the important information
presented, a DVD and printed materials.

I once asked my brother-in-law about his former job of pizza
deliverer. I asked if there were places where he didn’t like making deliveries.
The answer was yes, there was one, and after some discussion, he agreed that
notes about the address being unserviceable for female deliverers might be
wise. Growing up with a single mom, I remember overhearing a couple other
conversations about staying safe as a single female out in the world, things
that my husband wouldn’t bat an eye at doing as a tall male. In fact, he didn’t
even consider the female side of a situation until I brought it up. He just
took his stature and gender for granted.

Being caught in a threatening or violent situation is scary
and the possibility should be taken seriously. We tend to assume that everyone
is “Iowa nice,” and we don’t like thinking about bad things happening to good
people. But the risk is real and our chances to teach our kids escape
techniques are diminishing as they age. Our class will include a
presentation, role play, and discussion of different situations, followed by
practicing self-defense and safety techniques. Girls will leave class
remembering the important information presented.
