Rock The Caucus!

What it's like for a teenager in Iowa during the Caucus.

Hello again everyone! So this week my high school (WDM Valley) hosted a Rock the Caucus event and we were very fortunate to have three presidental candidates come and speak at our school.

Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul came and spoke to the seniors about the voting process and also encouraged those eligible to vote this year to vote for them in the caucus.

Unfourtunatly, I was unable to attend this event because I am too young to vote and they apparently don't care about anyone who can't vote. However I was not the only one to complain about not being able to go the the event, so the principal asked the candidates if they would walk around for a few minutes and meet some of the younger students.

I saw Michelle Bachman and got a Hello from Ron Paul! OMG!

Later that night, my family and I went to the actual caucus and listened to all the spokesmwn for each candidate read a letter or speech prepared by the candidate personally, which is probably not completely true because – let's face it – what presidential candidate has time to sit and write a letter to 99 counties?

Overall it was a very interesting experience and it gave me an amazing insight into the voting process. I even got to try out the vote-counting machine when we had a fake caucus at school to teach everyone how to vote. Sadly that was my favorite part overall.

All I can say now is that i'm glad the the phone calls are finally over. As for the residents of New Hampshire and South Carolina all I have to say is: Congratulations! They're your problem now!
