Extra West Des Moines Police On the Road This Weekend

West Des Moines will have extra officers on the roads Friday through Sunday looking for drunk drivers.

The West Des Moines Police Department will have additional officers on patrol for this weekend to deter alcohol-related offenses, according to a news release from the department.

The additional officers are paid for by a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

Below are some tips to have a safe weekend:

  • Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;
  • Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home;
  • If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely;
  • If you see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to call 911;
  • And remember, if you know someone who is about to drive while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
