Intruder Thought He Found Home, but Home Was Miles Away

A West Des Moines man's dog barked and he awoke to an intruder standing at his bedroom door early Saturday morning. The man wasn't where he thought he was.

A West Des Moines man got a rude awakening last weekend when his dog stirred around 4:30 a.m. and he awoke to see a stranger standing at his door.

It was just a mistake, the intruder reportedly said, according to a Des Moines Register report. He’d just moved into the complex in the 800 block of Eighth Street, and was on the wrong floor.

But there was a hole in his story. When Randy Benjamin Gonzalez, 27, couldn’t produce a key, West Des Moines police arrested him on trespassing charges and took him to the Polk County Jail.
