Police Chase Led by Polk City Teenager Starts in Ankeny, Ends in West Des Moines

The 18-year-old made it nearly 20 miles before police apprehended him, according to the Des Moines Register. The incident follows another in which the teenager was charged after allegedly taking his friend's car without permission.

An 18-year-old Polk City man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a 20-mile chase last week that started in Ankeny and ended in West Des Moines, according to the Des Moines Register.

Jacob T. Aves was arrested after the engine of his car failed south of Mills Civic Parkway, the Register reported. He was traveling southbound on Interstate 35.

Ankeny police told the newspaper Aves was pursued after he allegedly was spotted driving recklessly. While he never exceeded 70 mph, police said he refused to pull over.

Aves was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and eluding. He was released from jail Friday, the article said.

According to Ankeny police records, Aves was also charged with operating a vehicle without the owner's consent and fifth-degree theft following an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of March 30.

Police call logs said Aves allegedly took a car without permission from a friend's residence in the 400 block of Northeast Trilein Drive. He then drove it to Mason City and was later apprehended by the Mason City Police Department.
