Vandalism By Fast Food: You Want Fries With that Mess on Window?

A West Des Moines man was allegedly so upset that a convenience store wouldn't sell him alcohol early Monday morning that he flung his fast food against the store window.

The Kum & Go clerk at 7265 Vista Drive thinks a 41-year-old West Des Moines man should be required to clean the window of her store after he allegedly threw his fast food meal against the window in retaliation after she refused to sell him beer.

Before arresting Todd Paul Brekke on charges of public intoxication, West Des Moines police Officer Aaron Swenson relayed the clerk’s wishes. Brekke “laughed and said OK,” Swenson reported.

Brekke had entered the store about 2:30 a.m. Monday and asked by buy beer. When the clerk told him she couldn’t make the after-hours sale, he reportedly became “very upset,” threw a beer on the ground, threw his fast food all over the outside window and then headed to the nearby Fairfield Inn, where another officer reported seeing him pacing back and forth.

When officers caught up with Brekke, he reportedly said he was just trying to get home. He initially denied any knowledge about the fast food mess on the Kum & Go window, but finally did own up to it, Swenson reported.

After police charged Brekke, who declined a preliminary breath test, with public intoxication, he was released to his wife with a promise to appear in court.
