West Des Moines Mall Kiosks Lose Hundreds of Dollars in Overnight Theft

The suspect in thefts from kiosks at Jordan Creek Town Center is shown on video surveillance, police say.

Several kiosk businesses in Jordan Creek Town Center mall lost hundreds of dollars in cash and merchandise when someone allegedly broke into them overnight Sunday, according to a report on file at the West Des Moines Police Department.

The kiosks are typically secured with a zipped wrap that can be padlocked. However, it appears the suspect lifted the bottom of the tarp and crawled under it, Officer Shawn Miller wrote after reviewing surveillance video.

The video shows a white man lifting the tarps and crawling under them. He is of average height and weight, has short dark hair, wears glasses, and was wearing black shoes, blue jeans, and a black-and-white horizontal striped hoodie.

Businesses reporting losses – including $450 cash – included Just Dogs Gourmet, Proactive Solutions, Design and Stitch, Color of the Sun and Helipro. Missing merchandise includes a tower fan valued at $100, a calculator valued at $100, $200 in skin-care products, $60 in nail polish and a T-shirt valued at $15.

Mall security officers think the suspect entered the main mall through a back hallway.
