West Des Moines Man Learns Hard Lesson About Cheating Hearts

Alleged assault victim tells police he's not sure if he will pursue charges because he fears retaliation.

West Des Moines police responded to an assault call earlier this week when a woman's husband allegedly beat up her boyfriend and threatened to bring a gun the next time.

The alleged victim, a 36-year-old man, told police on March 19 that the husband of a woman he had been seeing until a few days prior showed up at his apartment in the 4200 block of Plymouth, beat him up and made threatening comments.

The victim told Officer Dan Wade that he visited the couple’s home, even though the woman had asked him not to come back. No one answered the door, and the man left, according to the report.

The assault victim told police that when he arrived at his residence, the woman’s husband was waiting for him in the parking lot. The husband allegedly pushed him in the head, causing him to fall into a 2006 PT Cruiser and break its rear driver’s side window and damage the rear-view mirror.

According to the report, the woman’s husband told the man to leave his wife alone and if he failed to do so, “he would bring ‘something else’ next time,” Wade wrote in his report.

The alleged victim of the attack said he knows the woman’s husband has a firearm and believed that was the “something else” he was referencing.

Wade said the victim’s eye was swollen and red, and there was a bump above the eye, as well.

The owner of the vehicle said she wanted to press charges against the perpetrator of the alleged assault. Police estimated the costs of repair at $250.

The alleged victim said he was unsure if he wanted to pursue criminal charges because he feared retaliation.
