West Des Moines Police Blotter: Bank Fraud, Drug Use at Git N Go, Man Passed Out Under Car

Someone shoots at a pool, stealing lunch from Hy-Vee and a man wearing only plaid shorts when police awoke him in a parking lot said he was sorry.

Recently from the West Des Moines Police Department's blotter:

July 9: An employee of the Git ‘N’ Go convenience store at 1325 Grand Ave. reported to police at 10:35 a.m. that a 20-year-old woman from Indianola entered the store and went directly to the bathroom. After half an hour, she left and the employee discovered a small syringe, an empty plastic bag and a metal spoon. The employee wrote down the woman’s license plate and called police. She told Officer Tom Wynn she thought the woman had done the same thing a month ago.

July 8: A homeowner in the 5300 block of Brookview Drive reported that someone punctured his above-ground pool seven times, damaging a square-foot area. The holes are close together and face the street. The victim thinks the suspect either jumped the fence and punctured the pool or used a pellet gun to shoot the pool. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

July 6: Christopher Jon Comes, 36, of 2199 N.W. 141st St., Clive, was arrested for fifth-degree theft at Hy-Vee 555, S. 51st St., after store employees accused him of placing six containers of mixed melons, a sandwich, a bottle of water, two low-sugar bars, an energy drink and other items from the health-food section of the grocery store into a reusable shopping bag, then taking them to the store cafeteria and eating them.

According to Officer Jason Hatcher’s report, the man left the store via the emergency exit and was walking to the gas station area when the store’s loss prevention officer, Joseph Dolack, caught up with him.

Comes reportedly told police that taking the items was “a stupid error in judgment” and that he failed to bring his wallet to the store and had no way to pay for the items. His shopping tab was $27.97.

July 6: A West Des Moines man reported to police that $35,900 in fraudulent charges had been made to his credit card. Wells Fargo Fraud Services alerted the man to suspicious activity on his account on June 29. He was told somone used his credit card and his identity to transfer $25,000 on June 26 and $10,900 on the June 28 to a fraudulently made joint account using his credit card.

The suspect then entered a Wells Fargo bank in California and withdrew the funds using his identity, according to Officer Jason Lichty’s report.

July 4: Police were called shortly after 5 a.m. to 5400 Mills Civic Parkway to investigate a report of a man was laying under a car. When Officers Troy Shelley and Anthony Giampolo investigated, the 21-year-old man was found face down and appeared to be asleep. He had no shirt or shoes and was wearing only a pair of plaid shorts.

When they awoke the subject, he reportedly began to apologize. His blood alcohol content was .123 when measured by police.
