West Des Moines Police Encounter Man Who 'Creeps,' Pair of 'Jerks' and Dog That Keeps Biting

Here's a snapshot of some of the situations recently encountered by West Des Moines law enforcement authorities.

“Creeping on Girls”

A West Des Moines man thinks his car was vandalized by a Clive man he kicked out of the apartment complex last week for “creeping on girls.” According to a report filed by Officer Curtis Russell, the victim of the vandalism said the suspect, who is 50, “acts like he’s 14.” The suspect reportedly lives a few blocks away from the apartment complex where the victim resides. Someone used green spray paint to write an expletive on the trunk of the victim’s 2004 Chevrolet Impala overnight Monday, according to the police report.

“We Were Being Jerks”

A 26-year-old West Des Moines tried to talk his way out of a public intoxication charge July 15 after Officer Ryan Anderson reportedly saw him and another man shoving one another inside Wellman’s Pub, 597 Market Place. He reportedly insisted to Anderson that he had been shoved first by a 41-year-old Waukee man, who police said was not impaired. “He kept asking why he was in trouble because he had done anything wrong,” Anderson reported

“We were being jerks,” the man said after Anderson said he’d seen what had been going on.

The other man reportedly said he left the bar for a smoke “when the guy in the skirt started pushing him around,” according to the report. He reportedly told Anderson he didn’t want any trouble.

Woman Yells, Dog Bites Harder

A 65-year-old West Des Moines woman who went for a run near her apartment complex at 1201 Office Park Road told police she was bitten by a dog around 12:15 on a recent morning and had to seek medical treatment at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

She told police that as she was running on the north side of the complex, she encountered another woman with a dog on a leash. The dog reportedly bit her twice in the right calf.  The victim alleged that when she yelled to the owner to control the animal because it was biting her, “the owner hit a button on the leash and the dog bit a larger chunk out of the victim’s leg,” according to Officer Anthony Giampolo’s report.

He noted severe lacerations to her leg in his report and placed photographs in evidence.

The woman reportedly told Giampolo that she thinks the woman lives in the same apartment complex. She thought the dog was a medium-sized brown and white crossbred.
