Police chase vehicle through parts of West Des Moines, Waukee and Urbandale ends with a crash in a cornfield near Redfield.

A high-speed chase that began in West Des Moines and continued through parts of Urbandale and Waukee ended in a cornfield near Redfield and landed the alleged driver of a stolen vehicle in jail.

The chase started about 9 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 35/80 when West Des Moines police attempted to stop a work vehicle that had been reported as stolen from Marion County. The truck, a 2011 Ford F-350, was equipped with a global positioning unit that allowed the victim to provide police with up-to-date information about her exact location.

The driver was a homeless woman, 23-year-old Crystal Prose, whose last known address was in Ohio, according to West Des Moines Police. Prose allegedly refused to stop when West Des Moines officers turned on their lights and siren, according to a report on file at the West Des Moines Police Department.

The chase reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour as the driver exited and entered Interstate 35/80 several times, allegedly running several red lights – first at Northwest 86th Street, then Douglas Avenue and then at Hickman Road, where Prose allegedly continued westbound through Waukee and Adel.

The tires on West Des Moines Police Officer Jacob Rolph's cruiser also lost pressure and he was forced to abandon the chase, according to the report.
