Woman Startled by Naked Man in Her Bed
A West Des Moines woman told police that she was surprised and startled Tuesday morning by what – and who – she found when she steadied her balance on a bed in her travel trailer.
Police are advising area law enforcement officials to be on the lookout for a 53-year-old Des Moines man they arrested for trespassing Tuesday after he reportedly claimed no knowledge about how he came to be naked in a travel trailer parked at a West Des Moines woman’s residence.
The victim discovered the man naked, but sound asleep, in her travel trailer about 7:45 Tuesday morning when she went in to retrieve a pair of earrings she had left behind while cleaning the camper Mondy. As she leaned over to retrieve something, she steadied her balance on the bed and realized there was an intruder.
She reportedly screamed loudly, waking the sleeping man, and backed quickly out of the trailer while asking him what he was doing there. He didn’t answer, but while she was talking with Westcom Dispatch, the man reportedly left the trailer wrapped only in a red towel that he he found in the travel trailer.
By that time, Officer Jason Hatcher had arrived and he intercepted the man, who he described as incoherent and unable to answer questions about how he got to the trailer or where he was. He claimed not to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, declined medical assistance, and that he “had just woken up, so he was not quite familiar with what he was doing,” according to the report.
The man claimed both to the owner of the travel trailer and to Hatcher that he had been given permission to stay in the trailer by Todd and Cheryl Crow, but was unable to provide information about where they might be contacted.
The victim, who lives in the 3300 block of 54th Street, told police that she had just parked the travel trailer in her driveway on Monday and left it for a final time about 10:30 p.m.
The intruder reportedly told police that he didn’t think he was doing anything in the trailer other than sleeping, though he acknowledged he didn’t remember anything from the day before.
