City Leaders to Honor West Des Moines Police Officer, Chaplain with Lifesaving Awards

Officer Chris Morgan and Chaplain Steve Freeman are credited with saving a man's life.

West Des Moines Police Officer Chris Morgan and the department’s chaplain, Pastor Steve Freeman, will be honored with lifesaving awards tonight by city leaders.

The awards presentation will lead off the regular meeting of the West Des Moines City Council, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway.

West Des Moines Police Department spokesman Lt. Jim Barrett told the Des Moines Register that Freeman was riding with Morgan on patrol Sept. 14 when Morgan responded to a medical call. The two are credited with saving a man’s life.

Morgan will receive the West Des Moines Police Department’s Lifesaving Award and Freeman will receive the Citizen’s Lifesaving Award. Freeman is pastor at Calvary Chapel Living Hope.
