Now Playing: Valley High School Students Going Out with Classic 'To Kill A Mockingbird'

This will be the final show performed in Valley's theater before the district opens a new performing arts center next school year. Performances will be held April 26-28.

Valley High School drama students are channeling a classic this weekend by bringing "To Kill A Mockingbird" to the stage.

The production will be held at Valley High School on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7-8. Reservations can be made by calling the school at 515-633-4000.

Set a small Alabama town in the 1930s, "To Kill A Mockingbird" focuses on scrupulously honest, highly respected lawyer Atticus Finch. Finch puts his career on the line when he agrees to represent Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape. The trial and the events surrounding it are seen through the eyes of Finch's six-year-old daughter, Scout.

This show will mark the final production to be held in Valley's current theater, the Register reported.

“We are building a new performing arts building at the end of the school year. This will be the final production and so it was important to me that the last production truly be a show that leaves a legacy. It’s a play that has withstood the test of time, much like our drama family,” drama director Stacy Hansen told the newspaper.
