CNN Features Gabby Douglas, West Des Moines in Documentary on Gender Equality in Olympics

As CNN puts it, the scene with Douglas in Iowa "is just one example of how everything and nothing has changed" since those Olympic Games.

Olympic darling Gabby Douglas and West Des Moines are intertwined, which is what brought CNN to our fair city to get a better look at where it all started for the overnight sensation.

The spotlight on Douglas and West Des Moines is part of a documentary on what has changed in the year since the 2012 Olympic Games. The Games were called "the Women's Games" because for the first time ever women could people for every country and in every event. 

As CNN puts it, the scene with Douglas in Iowa "is just one example of how everything and nothing has changed" since those Olympic Games. 

When we met her at the gym her host family owns, she was busy smiling, jumping and posing for a photo shoot with Seventeen Magazine.

Here, in the middle of Iowa, Douglas continues to work and train, and balance new-found celebrity with everyday life. One year after the 2012 Olympics, it is just one example of how everything and nothing has changed.

The documentary scans across the world to places like Saudi Arabia where when won't be allowed to vote until 2015 and the country was forced to allow women under the threat of being banned. 

In a country where women can't vote until 2015, can't play sports in public schools, and can't even drive, the Middle East country had to find female athletes to represent it.

The search turned up two women -- Sarah Attar and Wodjan Sharkhani. Attar, a dual citizen of Saudi Arabia and the U.S., grew up in California.

The documentary is called "World Sport presents: An Uneven Playing Field" and it will air on CNN International on Saturday August 10.
