Dowling Moves On to Softball Semifinals; Valley Falls in Matchup Against Johnston
The Maroons will play defending champs Ankeny on Thursday for their shot at the state title.
One West Des Moines softball team is headed to the Class 5A Iowa high school state softball semifinals.
Dowling Catholic advanced in the state tournament following a 12-4 win over Dubuque Senior Tuesday, according to the Des Moines Register. Dowling (32-11) scored eight runs in the second inning to end a streak of tournament-opening losses over the last three seasons, the article said.
However, Valley's run at the state title ended with a 10-0 loss to fifth-ranked Johnston, the Register also reported.
Dowling will play Ankeny at 7p.m. on Thursday. The game will be played on Diamond 1 at the Harlan & Hazel Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Valley moved to the consolation round Wednesday, playing Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
