For nearly a year, 17-year-old Douglas has been a media darling: she's walked red carpets, performed with Alicia Keys at that VMAs, and the White House correspondents dinner.

Gymnastics was never far from her mind, though.

"She's so excited at the prospect of getting back into sport," Douglas' mother, Natalie Hawkins, said in the the HuffPo article. "We've been out on this incredible journey but that's been the one thing: She's missed gymnastics. Her sole desire and passion was to get back to the sport she loves so much."

Chow told USA Today that he would welcome her back to his gym only if he was convinced that she was serious about regaining her form as the best in the world.

However, Douglas is undettered, the Huffington Post reports, and Chow said 2014 could be a possibility for fans to once again see Douglas in action.

Douglas will live with her host family, the Partons, until her brother, John, a high school track star, graduates next month and goes to college. Hawkins and her other two daughters may then relocate to Iowa, or Douglas could stay with the Partons and have her family visit.
