Hawkeye Recruit Peter Jok ‘Doing His Thing’ (and Doing it Well)

Shooting is what West Des Moines Valley recruit does best – and it's where the University of Iowa basketball team needs the most help.

So far, so good. West Des Moines Valley recruit Peter Jok – Iowa’s Mr. Basketball – and the Iowa Hawkeyes appear to be a good fit in practices for the Hawkeyes’ upcoming  six-game exhibition tour of England and France

“Peter has just slid in there with us,” senior Zach McCabe told the Des Moines Register.

Jok, a 6-foot-6 guard, is the only new face on the 2013-2014 Hawkeye basketball team. He said he feels like a member of the team, which is looking to Jok to improve its overall shooting, the area where the Hawkeyes are the weakest.

That’s Jok’s specialty – last season, he shot 42 percent from the 3-point line and 92.6 percent from the freethrow line, averaging 23.6 points per game for the Valley Tigers.

McCabe said Jok is “a great shooter” with “a lot of confidence in himself.”

“That’s what we need,” he said. “Him coming in, and doing his thing.”

Jok is also expected to contribute to the Hawkeye defense, and he’s working with assistant Coach Kirk Speraw during the 10 practice sessions the NCAA allows in preparation for the exhibition games in Europe.
