Quick-Acting Iowa Baseball Team Helps Save Life After Coach Collapses With Heart Attack

Coaches and players from the West Des Moines Valley's baseball team helped save the life of assistant coach Blake Weber, who collapsed with a heart attack during practice earlier this year.

The West Des Moines Valley's baseball team is sharing a remarkable story of snapping to action to save the life of their coach, who collapsed with a heart attack during practice earlier this year.

Fielding practice had just concluded when assistant coach Blake Weber, the father of head coach Brady Weber, fell to the ground, gasping for air as he headed for the dugout.

"Everybody was just in shock," Valley Senior Jeremy Roehrick told KCCI. "Time froze."

Brady Weber performed CPR with guidance from Roehrick, who was certified. The older Weber flatlined that night in the hospital and was lucky to pull through, Brady Weber said. He underwent triple bi-pass surgery.

The team is dedicating the season to Weber.
