Independence Day Fun Starts on July 3 in West Des Moines

A big parade and street dance usher in the holiday.

Independence Days activities get started early in West Des Moines a parade on Tuesday, July 3, and end July 4 with a fireworks display.

Here’s a schedule from West Des Moines Parks and Recreation:

July 3:
Independence Days Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. from Valley West Drive and Ashworth Road. This year's theme is “Let Freedom Ring!”  From Valley West Drive the parade will proceed east to Vine, then south on Vine to 5th Street, and then south on 5th Street ending at Elm.  The parade is sponsored by .

Post Parade Street Dance follows the parade in Valley Junction. The street dance is sponsored by the .  This year's band is the Tony Valdez Big Band.

July 4:
Holiday Classic Horseshoe Tourney will be held at starting at 9:00am.  For more information call 681-1937.  The event is sponsored by the West Des Moines Horseshoe Pitchers Association.

July 4th Aquatic Center Special offers $3 admission per person at both West Des Moines aquatic centers. The aquatic centers are open from noon until 6 p.m.

28th Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament will take place in , 2500 Grand Ave., starting at 8 a.m. and is sponsored by the .  For more information, please call 222-3420.

West Des Moines Community Band Concert will be held by the Coneflower Shelters in Raccoon River Park, starting at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of patriotic favorites.

Fireworks Display starts at dusk over Blue Heron Lake at Raccoon River Park.
