Valley Athletic Director Takes to Twitter After High School Track is Vandalized

While the vandalism happened early Thursday morning, Brad Rose is hoping Valley students will see the message on Twitter and come forward with any clues as to whom is responsible.

Brad Rose, athletic director at West Des Moines Valley High School, took to social media Thursday for tips in finding out who is responsible for vandalizing the high school's track. Rose said obscenities were painted in the grass around the track, the Des Moines Register reported Thursday. A set of bleachers were also overturned. West Des Moines Valley Student Earns Highest Score in State French Exam

Students of French in grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, took a written test and competed against students with similar educational background.

Media release: West Des Moines Valley High School senior Francisco Lynch recorded the highest score for level 5A students in the state of Iowa on this year’s National French Exam. Fellow senior Alex Hyon placed fifth in Iowa in level 2A, which also tied him for 10th place in the nation.  Seven Advanced Placement students scored in the state top 10 for their level test, including Linh Do, Daisha Philllips, Jakeshan Thacker, Lindsay Thompson, Kat Novak and Melissa Trigoutis. The National French Contest/Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. West Des Moines School Board Names Interim Superintendent

The school board voted unanimously on the decision at a special meeting Wednesday morning.

The West Des Moines school board has selected Associate Superintendent Lisa Remy to temporarily take the helm of the school district, according to a news release. The school board voted unanimously at a special meeting Wednesday morning after interviewing Remy. The board also interviewed Hillside Elementary School Principal Robert Davis. “Dr. Remy’s district-level experience will help us continue moving forward efficiently and effectively,” Board President Elizabeth Brennan said in the release. “The board and I look forward to working with her in the coming months.” A handful of West Des Moines parents, teachers and school board members, spoke out in support of Remy’s appointment to the position at a regular school board meeting last week…

Interim Superintendent Candidates Narrowed to Two; Interviews Wednesday

The West Des Moines Community Schools board of education will meet at 7 a.m. Wednesday to interview Hillside Principal Robert Davis and Associate Superintendent Lisa Remy.

The school board will interview two West Des Moines Community Schools administrators to serve as interim superintendent until a permanent replacement can be named for Peter Ansingh, who was abruptly fired earlier this month. The candidates are Hillside Elementary School Principal Robert Davis and Associate Superintendent Lisa Remy. The meeting will be held at 7 a.m. in the Media Center at the Walnut Creek Campus, 1020 Eighth St. Davis has been with the school district since 1991, when he became principal of Crestview Elementary School. He also served as principal of Rex Mathes and Clegg Park Elementary schools before taking his current position as principal at Hillside Elementary, according to a story on the school district’s web site, …

Hillside Elementary Students Writing, Recording Song with Help of Hip-Hop Artist

The West Des Moines students will perform the song on Wednesday, May 22.

Students at West Des Moines' Hillside Elementary School will get to call themselves songwriters by the end of this week. Hip-hop artist Rahlo is visiting the school this week, meeting with kids, talking to them about his career, and helping them write and record their own song. The song will focus on theme 'what is your legacy?'. Students will perform the song on Wednesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. Rahlo also visited the school in 2010. See what they created three years ago.

School Board Takes Up Interim Superintendent Discussion Again

Until a permanent replacement can be named for Peter Ansingh, interim administrator will lead West Des Moines Community Schools through “crisis” situation and culture of "distrust."

The school board will discuss the appointment of an interim superintendent at a special meeting at 6 p.m. today at Walnut Creek Campus Media Center, 1020 Eighth St. Interested parties had until today to ask to be considered to serve as superintendent until a permanent replacement can be named for Peter Ansingh. The school board decided two weeks ago to buy out the remaining year in Ansingh’s three-year contract with the district, agreeing to a $225,000 severance package plus benefits.
