'Project Mountain' Wants to Invest $700 Million in West Des Moines Data Center

While the company behind the project has not been identified, West Des Moines city leaders expect it to create 36 jobs.

Just weeks after Facebook announced plans to build a data center in Altoona, another company wants to construct a $700 million data center in West Des Moines.

According to the Des Moines Register, the unidentified company behind “Project Mountain” is seeking $20 million in tax credits for high-quality job creation.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board will consider incentives for Project Mountain and other projects Friday, the article said.

West Des Moines city leaders told the newspaper the first phase of the investment would be $40 million, followed by at least a second phase of at  $100 million. More phases could follow.

City leaders also said Project Mountain would create 36 jobs, according to the Register.
