Couple Report Unexpected Guest; All they Got was a Lousy T-Shirt

Oh, and a $5 bill: Was it payment, an apology or money the stealth sleeper didn't mean to leave behind? Another #OMGPD moment from the West Des Moines police blotter.

You know that motel ad where the innkeeper promises to “leave the light on”?

They didn't leave the light on, but after they accidentally left their patio door unlocked, someone in the 2200 block of E.P. True Parkway saw that as the same open invitation to come in and rest a weary head.

The couple awoke about 7:30 a.m. on July 12 to find that someone had left a $5 bill and T-shirt in their living room after apparently sleeping on their couch in an apartment complex in the 2200 block of E.P. True Parkway.

According to a report on file at the West Des Moines Police Department, the couple thought they had locked the sliding door, but discovered “the patio door was standing wide open.”

Several decorative pillows that had been on the couch were found on the floor.

Nothing appeared to be missing from the residence, the couple said.

And they're $5 richer.
