Man Screams Over Ice Cream, Tells Cops he Hopes Motorcyclist is ‘Beheaded’: OMGPD

The man, who was wearing the remnants of his ice cream cone on his shirt, reportedly told police he should have accelerated and run over his alleged assailant.

A motorist West Des Moines authorities described as “irate” reportedly said he hopes a motorcyclist he accused of deliberately ruining his ice-cream treat is “beheaded in a motorcycle accident.”

The victim, a 61-year-old West Des Moines man, also told police he wants the motorcyclist, believed to be a 22-year-old Adel man, charged with assault.

He told West Des Moines Police Officer Barry Graham that he had just pulled out of the Dairy Queen at 308 Grand Avenue and was eating his ice cream cone about 9:45 p.m. on June 23 as he drove eastbound on Grand Avenue. He said two motorcyclists cut in front of him at the red light at the intersection of Grand and First Street.

What happened next was “completely without provocation,” according to Graham’s report.

The man riding the motorcycle registered to the Adel man reportedly “opened the door of of his vehicle and smacked the ice cream out of his hand.” The alleged assailant, described a white male in his 20s wearing a white T-shirt and a motorcycle helmet, then reportedly said, “Better not (expletive) with somebody you can’t handle.”

The light changed, and the two men reportedly sped away on their bikes.

When Graham interviewed the victim, who had ice cream smeared on his shirt, he reportedly said that he “should have accidentally put his foot on the gas and ran both motorcyclists over.”

“He also told me that he is glad that three out of four motorcyclists die in accidents,” Graham wrote.

The man’s statistics about the rate of motorcycle fatalities could not be verified. However, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that motorcycle riders are 35 percent more likely than other motor vehicle operators to experience a deadly accident.
