What Police Found While Searching for Bra Landed Woman in Jail

A West Des Moines police officer was searching a car for underwear a woman said she was trying to exchange when discount store authorities accused her of theft.

A West Des Moines police officer searching a car for a bra Tuesday afternoon found marijuana instead and arrested the woman on drug charges, fifth-degree theft and an outstanding Dallas County warrant.

The woman, 34-year-old Kimberly Ann Walker of Des Moines, told Officer Shawn Miller that she hadn’t stolen anything and that the loss prevention officer at Walmart Supercenter, 6365 Stagecoach Drive, was confused.

The store employee told Miller that he had seen the woman, whose appearance was distinctive with blue and blond hair, in the store last week and thought she was acting suspiciously, but was unable to detain her, according to a report on file at the West Des Moines Police Department.

When she returned to the store this week, he watched her closely, according to Miller’s report. He claimed the woman took several items out of packages and put them in a bag in her cart. He tried to detain her when she allegedly tried to flee the store and she dropped the bag at the door.

In it was an estimated $200 n merchandise.

When Miller caught up with Walker and her male companion, she denied that she had stolen any merchandise and her only reason for being in Walmart was to return the bra. She said she didn’t have her identification, so the store employee refused to process the return.

Then, Walker reportedly said, she tried to exchange the bra for other merchandise, but that request was also denied.

She told Miller the bra should turn up in a search of the car.

It didn’t, and neither did any stolen merchandise.

But he did find two bags under the driver’s seat with a combined total of 2.5 grams of marijuana.

She was processed at the West Des Moines Jail, then turned over to Dallas County authorities.
